Public investors often value AI infrastructure projects by the contract value alone. The correct approach is to value them by their retained customer economics, renewal probability, and churn-adjusted margins. On those metrics, HIVE looks weak because its client concentration is extreme. One client accounts for the entirety of the $350 million contract. The board will claim diversification across phase one and phase two capacity. That is not diversification. That is splitting the same counterparty into two delivery milestones. The narrative goes as follows: HIVE is transitioning from a low-margin mining business into a high-growth AI cloud provider. The existing mining infrastructure grants a time-to-market advantage. The mining infrastructure is located at facilities optimized for cheap electricity, not for low-latency GPU interconnects. The network infrastructure must be substantially rebuilt, not reused. The zero-coupon bond structure is a benefit only if the company can deploy the funds at a return above the conversion discount. A 40 percent operating margin on the AI contract may be sufficient, but the contract value is only active if delivery occurs. Bond investors have no claim on future GPU sales.
